current work in progress

Welcome home. We're here. We're queer.  2017 - now

Monoprint, screenprint, & ecoprint. Silk, mulberry, & cotton rag.
Etching ink & natural dyes. Rose, chili pepper, alkanet, coffee, onion, & beet.

The queer conception of home is built differently from others habitations. It is a refuge oftentimes built out of a necessity because of rejection from the heteronormative nuclear family. As queer folks we have had to carve out and build up a space for ourselves. For my partner and I, our home is one of the very few places we feel like we can truly be ourselves. Using silk, natural dyes, and photographs taken by my partner I attempt to recreate the safety and comfort of our little, queer home.

Photographs used in the work and inspiration courtesy of S. Haylette. See more of them and their work on their Instagram  @iamthepurplespook.
